Hansons Hobby Joggers

The Hansons had runners at Boston? I sure didn't see any of them on TV running with the giant lead pack.

But yes, they were there doing what they do best now; running moderately fast OT qualifiers, 10 minutes behind the leaders. And that's why they will be called the Hansons Hobby Joggers from now until they have a sub 2:15 on the team.
Brain Sell said it best after his disappointing 2:16 at Boston last year, "2:16 doesn't even deserve shoes".

I'm a fan of the Hansons and think what they've done with the program is great and really gives guys a chance to go after their dreams and unlock their potential. Unfortunately they haven't been able to recruit, or retain much talent lately.

Arcianaga and Rizzo were heading in the right direction, but they split after their PR fall marathons, for reasons unknown. And with Sell's retirement, that hasn't left them with much.

Chad Johnson has been heading in the wrong direction since his 2:15 in '06. He put a couple 2:20's last year, then managed a 2:17:41 in Boston. He's 33 now, and not likely to touch 2:14 after all these year.

Sage Canaday ran 2:21 and 2:20 while in college, and has since run 2:30 in NYC and just put up 2:24 in Boston. Hard to imagine he's gonna suddenly throw down a 2:14.
They may need to put a wig on him and switch him to the woman's team. He can pace Davila.

The one bright spot seems to be the other new guy to the team, Drew Polley.
He was recruited after a 2:21 in San Antonio last fall, and ran 2:16:36 at Boston. He has a ways to go yet, but he's young, new to the marathon, and took a big chunk off his PR on his first try.

Could he be the on to the remove the "hobby jogger" tag??
