Geb Wins. Misses Record. By A Lot.

2:06:09. Good time. Not great.
Haile was never on pace for the record and the $1million bonus, and good thing because if you haven't heard, Dubai is broke. They don't even have a million dollars.

While averaging 3:00/k for the race, he blazed the final kilometer in 2:36, which is fucking awesome. That's 13min 5K pace. Which is the road 5k world record. So yeah, safe to say he had a little gas left in the tank after 26 miles.

Afterward, he blamed a sore back from sleeping wrong for not feeling good enough to go for the record.
I've heard he actually sleeps on piles of money, which can't be good for your back. So it's plausible, but he should have just said it was a "tempo run", or a "tune-up for Berlin", where he will REALLY try to break the record.

"The Great One" will most likely be back in Berlin this Sept. to take yet another swing at lowering his 2:03:59 record. But does he still have what it takes? Probably. But I think he needs to go up against Wanjiru to do it. Gettin' old and could be his last real chance at it, but I would not count him out yet.
