Bolt

It can difficult sometimes to fully appreciate the dominance of the world's best sprinters over mere mortals, because unlike the other distances raced on the roads, sprinters never race them. You do see the one white guy from Czech Republic or where ever getting his ass handed to him, but even he is flying.

Watch here as the worlds fastest man jogs 100m and handily beats a bunch of ESPN employees sprinting all out.

Training Advice From Peter Gilmore

"If you want to improve your performance in the marathon, stop worrying about minimalist shoes, caveman diets, and new-age running form, and start worrying about getting out the door and running a little more than you did last week. High mileage works!  It is the single best method for the greatest percentage of runners to improve in the marathon."

Haile Is Not Retiring

The big running news this week has been "The Great One Retires".
Puh-lease. Haile is not retiring. He ran a 59:33 half marathon a couple months ago. Obviously he had put a great deal of pressure on himself to come to NYC and prove the critics wrong, showing he can "race" a marathon and win. And he failed.

He's the greatest runner of all-time. He's tremendously disappointed. He said he was retiring based on emotion. It smelled like BS right away. What champion type athlete has ever retired after they said they were retiring? They can't quit. They don't know how. Already he's said "he need some time to think about it".

"The Great One" will be back. Mark my words.

Mike Morgan Ran Chicago, Got a PR, Pooped In His Shorts

Running really jars your system and loosens up your bowels, so this isn't that uncommon, but it doesn't make it any less disgusting. If faced with the decision to stop running and poop, or run a mile with a load in your shorts for a PR, I guess the decision is an easy one.

I will be keeping an eye out for the Mike Morgan finish line photos.

Want To Run The NYC Marathon?

Maybe you thought it was too late, ohhh, but it's not!

The Fresh Air Fund-Racers team still has spots available for the NYC Marathon on November 7th.
Raise money, run a marathon, help the kids. So even though you will probably only finish around 20,000th place overall, you can still fill like a winner.

Every year the Fresh Air Fund program has provided free summer experiences in the country to more than 1.7 million New York City children from disadvantaged communities.  Each year, thousands of children visit volunteer host families in 13 states and Canada through the Friendly Town Program or attend one of five Fresh Air Fund camps.

Fresh air and kids, what's not to like? If you can't run the marathon and fund raise, maybe you can
just give a little donation on their site. Unless you want these kids to come back and mug you in 20 years....just help the kids.

We Have A Pulse

Pre's Mustache is not dead, we're just in a coma.

A multitude of time consuming obligations(most of them good) have put a stranglehold on this blog.

But worry not! There are new interviews, essays, and articles in the pipeline, and every one of them will make you a smarter, faster, and sexier for having read them.

Have a super wonderful day.
